Soni's Story
For the longest me I never really gave any thought to the glory of Christ during high school. In fact, I never really knew the name Jesus – all I knew was my big circle of friends, my creativity, my music, my camera, and my dreams. Essentially all the things that you and I both value, but just no Jesus. With that, I became surrounded by a world full of substances, partying, alcohol, and impurity. That was normal for me. I would go to Hindley Street every Saturday night to have fun. I would perform my music on stages in clubs and eventually get paid for it. I would naturally involve myself in drugs and tobacco because that’s just the culture of those places. That’s normal for me. Now, what wasn’t normal, was me going to church. That’s like flipping my whole world upside down. How did I come to find church? My first church experience was when I was in year 11 or 12 (I don’t remember, back then I don’t think I was sober) when my best friend invited to come to youth a few times. Funny enough, that wasn’t the moment I met Jesus, but it was the moment seeds were being planted in my life. I only came a whole 3 times and never came back. I graduated high school and one of my friends at the time found Christ during that season. He invited me to church, and to support him I decided to come with him. I wasn’t there for no Jesus (yet), I was there purely for my friend. Turns out it was the same church as the youth I went to. This day marked the day Jesus, being God, introduced Himself to me. I won’t lie I was way too prideful to see how joyful and loving the church truly was, and God knew my heart at the time wouldn’t see that – and so it was inworship, the start of the service, where Jesus planted visions inside of my mind. Jesus talked to me, and He showed me how good He truly is, and how flawed I am, but also how loved I am. And so, every Sunday I would come back to church, not yet for the preach, or the coffee, or not even the community (not yet!). In this season, I would come every Sunday knowing Jesus would give me a new vision in worship. And He did! That’s how Jesus saved me in the house of God, called LIFE Adelaide. This is my home, and Jesus used this building to start my journey with Him over the course of my life. Now I’m here for the family, the body of Christ – being the church. I get to be creative, make music, lead the year 7 boys, and hold up a camera to serve the Lord, all in the house of God. He turned my dreams into His dream, but that couldn’t have been fulfilled without the church itself. My encouragement to all who attend this house is – think more than just now and think more than just what you see. It took a span of a few years for me to even be saved in the house of God, but without youth being there, without the service, the worship, and even the community, Jesus couldn’t have used it. Think about how many people’s lives and eternities can be impacted, all because of your faithful act of obedience to be a part of and support the church through what’s in your hands. Thank you, Jesus.
